Erosion
The purpose of erosion control in agriculture, land development, and construction is to prevent or control wind or water erosion. Erosion is a process in which soil, sediment, and rock fragments separate as a result of water, wind, ice, or gravity. Construction activities requiring erosion control include the removal of protective vegetation or ground cover, excavation, grading, landfilling, stockpiling of dirt and fill materials, and dewatering.
To minimize sediment and other pollutants carried by runoff or discharged into lakes, streams, and wetlands, nearly all city and state governments have ordinances in place. Inspectors are alert to erosion control measures in towns and cities when the possibility of erosion affects storm sewers as well as rights-of-way.
An erosion control product should provide abilities that are suitable for the environment in which erosion is occurring. All contractors are responsible for affecting erosion. TPG will work with customers to provide a solution to any given environmental erosion situation based on three principles: use the land according to its capabilities, protect the soil surface with some form of cover, and control runoff before it becomes an erosive force.
